The cabernet sauvignon and merlot do the heavy lifting in this dynamic red blend with plenty of red licorice, strawberry, and plum, but it is the addition of petit verdot, cabernet franc, and malbec that prettify the wine with the added style of violet and wild iris—like the deceptively simple last-minute addition of a scarf, bracelet, or pocket square that has the magic to tie an entire ensemble together. To be sure, this is a red blend that remains light on its feet and ultimately refreshing with blueberry and an appealing cranberry tartness. Stipples of tamarind, paprika, and coriander glide between the fruit and lead into a finish that evolves like an autumn perfume—from milk chocolate and vanilla frosting to a deep woodsy spice.
